About

TerPoets (ter-po-ets) is the combination of two identities that our members share, for we are Terps, and we are Poets (not necessarily in that order). TerPoets was established as the premier poetry organization on the campus of the University of Maryland, at College Park, with the express purpose of promoting, cultivating, showcasing, and creating poetry (defined widely to include songs, lyrics, music, literature, and even dance and other poetic movements, noises, etc.).

The purposes of Terpoets are to:

  • Bring the many talented (and terrible) poets of College Park together
  • To share our art,
  • Create art,
  • Work on perfecting our art,
  • Listen to, view, and read the poetry of others,
  • Perform for the greater community,
  • Bring poets to campus,
  • And establish an environment on campus where individuals and groups feel comfortable sharing some of their most precious pieces of poetry.

In carrying out these goals, the Terpoets are committed to abiding by all established University of Maryland codes of conduct.

    How do I join?!

    • September 14, 2010 3:48 pm

      Hi Allison!
Join our facebook group, Terpoets, to stay posted. We have open board meetings & set-up before all of our open-mics. You are welcome to come by and help out or perform at anytime, should that interest you.
Our first one of the semester (as you’ve hopefully heard about) is tonight @ 7pm, Dorch basement lounge. Come through!

For those of us who live in the dark dark facebookless world, is there an email listserve or something I can join to stay in the loop?….I keep missing the events because I don’t see fliers or whatnot till a day or two before.

Hmm. We’re working on getting a listserve together (this seemingly simple task has presented a host of logistical challenges…). In the meanwhile, please check our humble little website? We’ll try and keep that updated in a timely fashion 🙂

Is there an events schedule? When are the open mics? Thanks!

    • February 28, 2011 3:57 pm

      Hi Diana,
There isn’t a full published events schedule–we reserve the right to change/modify the schedule as necessary so we don’t release the names of the performers til 3 weeks or so before. However, we usually have two open mics a month and they’re traditionally on Tuesday night. Join our facebook page for the most up-to-date information on our events! Our open mic is tomorrow (March 1st). We’ll be having an open mic/reading in Ulrich Recital Hall (Tawes) from 7-9. Hope you can join us. The one after that is on March 15th.
